Halloween

We had the best Halloween! For the first time Lily was old enough to join the neighbor kids and go all the way down our street instead of only our block for trick or treating. Our trick or treating was more like Oktoberfest. Our street goes all out with graveyards and pirates and Darth Vadar and such. Some houses give chili, beer, and jello shots to the adults and all houses give candy to the kids. So there we are...pushing a stroller with one hand and enjoying a German brew in the other! Indeed fun for the kids and adults alike! As you can see Lily choose to be Strawberry Shortcake, and therefore Charlotte Apple Dumplin (the baby in the Strawberry Shortcake series). Lily talked me into being Strawberry Shortcake too. So I obliged.

And we had a Halloween party. We spooked up our house and made a pot of chili and our dear friends flattered us by attending and dressing up. We had pirates, guitar heros, the Scooby Doo gang, a disco diva, a baby with a mustache and more. The kids played Boo Bingo, and Darin had a mad scientist table and spooky tale to go with it. The kids got to touch brains, hearts, fingers, hair, guts, and eyeballs. We had a campfire, roasted marshmallows, and a played ghost in the graveyard. The night ended with a Halloween cartoon and Lily's first sleepover as her and her neighbor friend Ruby fell asleep next to each other on an air mattress in our room. I held infant Ruby at the first block party I attended and prayed for a baby girl of my own someday. It is so sweet that a year and a half later I did have that baby girl of my own and Ruby has become her dear friend and idol (being older, of course).
